Ottawa Portrait Photography that Feels Authentic

Ottawa Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is about more than appearance. It is about capturing personality, confidence, connection, and the moments that make people unique. This portfolio includes professional headshots, creative portraits, musician portraits, business photography, engagement sessions, family portraits, and personal branding photography created throughout Ottawa and the National Capital Region.

Whether working in a studio environment, an urban setting, or one of Ottawa's many parks and historic locations, my goal is to create portraits that feel natural and authentic. Every session is designed around the individual, resulting in images that reflect genuine character rather than staged expressions.

Professional Headshots and Personal Branding

Professional portraits help entrepreneurs, executives, artists, and professionals present themselves with confidence. These sessions are designed for websites, LinkedIn profiles, speaker biographies, marketing materials, and personal branding. Working with natural light, professional lighting techniques, and carefully selected locations, I create portraits that are both polished and approachable while remaining true to the individual.

Engagement Photography in Ottawa

Engagement portraits celebrate an important chapter in a couple's story. These sessions are photographed throughout Ottawa at locations including Parliament Hill, Major's Hill Park, the Rideau Canal, Dominion Arboretum, Rockcliffe Rockeries, and Gatineau Park. The focus is always on authentic connection, relaxed interaction, and creating images that reflect the personalities of each couple.

Engagement sessions are ideal for save-the-date announcements, wedding websites, invitations, social media, and personal keepsakes. By combining meaningful locations with natural posing and candid moments, the result is a collection of photographs that feels timeless and personal.

Family and Child Portrait Photography

Children grow quickly, making portrait photography one of the best ways to preserve important milestones and memories. These sessions are designed to be relaxed, fun, and age appropriate, allowing genuine expressions and personalities to emerge naturally. Whether photographing toddlers, older children, or multi-generational families, the goal is to create meaningful images that families will treasure for years to come.

Sessions can take place at home, outdoors, or at a location that holds personal significance, creating portraits that feel both comfortable and authentic.

Ottawa Portrait Photography FAQ

How much do you charge for a portrait session?

Portrait sessions in Ottawa typically range from $175 to $450. More specialized creative, branding, or extended portrait sessions generally fall between $450 and $1,000+, depending on the location, session length, and deliverables included.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept e-transfer, debit, and major credit cards. Credit card payments are subject to a 2.5% processing fee charged by the payment processor.

Do you travel for sessions?

Yes. Travel throughout Ottawa and Gatineau is included, and I am available for assignments across Canada. I have photographed events and projects in cities including Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, and regularly work on location for clients requiring coverage beyond the National Capital Region. You can view my full service area on the Service Area page.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

Portrait sessions can take place outdoors, at your home, in my home studio, or at another location that fits the style you are looking for. If you are unsure where to shoot, I can recommend a variety of indoor and outdoor locations throughout Ottawa and Gatineau based on the look you want to achieve.

What should I wear for my portrait session?

Solid colours, complementary tones, and simple patterns often photograph best. For couples and families, I recommend coordinating outfits rather than matching exactly (unless that's the look you're going for) and choosing a similar level of formality. The goal is to look like you belong together in the photograph, not like one person is attending a formal gala while another is getting ready to paint the living room. If you are unsure what to wear, I am always happy to review outfit options and offer guidance before your session.

How long does it take to receive my photos?

Most galleries are delivered within 5-10 days. When images are needed for media, marketing, publication, or social media purposes, expedited delivery is often available. Weddings and events typically include a sneak peek gallery within 48 hours.

How long does a portrait session take?

Most portrait sessions take approximately 45–60 minutes. The exact timing depends on the location, outfit changes, and the type of portraits being created. My focus is on ensuring you feel comfortable and leaving with a strong gallery of images, not on ending the session at a specific minute.

How many photos will I receive?

The number of images delivered depends on the type and length of your session. Rather than working toward a specific photo count, I focus on capturing the moments that matter and delivering a carefully curated gallery of professionally edited images. My goal is for you to receive the strongest photographs from your session, not just the largest number of files.

How do I receive my photos?

You’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view, share, and download your images in high resolution. Galleries are optimized for both desktop and mobile devices, making it easy to access your photographs whether you are sharing them with family, friends, colleagues, or your marketing team.

Do you offer prints?

Yes. I offer professional-quality prints and custom framing for many portrait and fine-art images. Prints up to 13 × 19 inches can be produced by me in-house, while larger pieces and specialty products can be arranged through trusted professional print labs.

What’s included in a session?

Every session includes guided posing, real‑time image review and approval via a tablet, professional lighting, fully edited images, and a private online gallery for viewing and downloading your photographs. Being able to see your images as we shoot allows you to adjust your pose or expression if desired, and ensures you can select the photos you like most.

Do you edit all the photos?

Yes. Every image delivered in your final gallery is carefully reviewed and professionally edited for color, exposure, tone, and clarity. My goal is to ensure your photographs look polished, consistent, and true to the moment.

I’m not comfortable in front of the camera — can you help?

Absolutely. Most people tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera, and that is completely normal. I provide gentle guidance throughout the session, helping with posing, expression, and positioning so you can relax and focus on being yourself. During many sessions, I also review images with you in real time using a tablet, allowing us to fine-tune poses and expressions together. My goal is to make the experience comfortable, enjoyable, and surprisingly easy, resulting in photographs that feel natural rather than forced.

Do you photograph families and children?

Yes. I photograph families of all sizes and work to keep sessions relaxed and enjoyable for everyone involved. Children are encouraged to be themselves, and I do not expect perfection (unless you do!). Some of the best photographs happen between the poses, during the laughs, the distractions, and the moments nobody planned.

Do you do videos as well?

Yes — however, my primary focus is photography. I have all the equipment needed for videography, so I can provide short video clips for certain projects when requested. For full video production, I can handle videography while my business partner focuses on the photography. You can see the full list of equipment I use on my My Gear page.
